Collection: Ears Nose and Throat Health
In treating upper respiratory disorders, what we try to do is keep the toxins in the mucous drainage from going into the lungs, because most asthma results from uncontrolled allergies existing for long periods of time. This drainage causes damage to the lungs. I don’t believe that there has been an asthmatic that did not have uncontrolled upper respiratory problems first. The only exception would be damage caused by an inhalation injury.
The symptoms: sore throat (from drainage through the sinuses), runny nose, congested nose, ear problems, dizziness, tinnitus, glandular swellings in the neck, and/or sinus headaches. There can be one or more symptoms.
Usually at this time, the bodies craving for sugars and refined carbohydrates increases. This is because the acid/alkaline balance in the body is disturbed. One of the best ways to balance this, and lessen the junk food cravings, is with 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar (raw, unfiltered, unpasteurized), and 2 tsp. raw honey (raw, unfiltered, unpasteurized), added to 7 oz. of clean, filtered water. This mixture is taken twice a day. We call this Tea Honey.
milk is often blame for the allergies and the extra mucous in the body, but it’s not the milk, it’s the sugar that’s the real culprit. There’s nothing wrong with milk in reasonable amounts. The only problem is, you can’t get milk. I’ll say it again: you can’t get milk (unless you have a cow or a goat). You can get milk products from a store. And the difference between milk and milk products is, basically, that the milk products are the killed milk…there are no enzymes in it…it’s dead.
We were vegan before it was fashionable. We lived on a farm with a bunch of kids. We wanted the kids to have the experience of having a cow: taking care of it, milking it twice a day, straining the milk, using the milk, making cheese… so we bought a cow. We had good milk coming out of that cow, because we fed her well. We didn’t cook the milk (pasteurization). You milk the cow, strain the milk, cool it down, and drink it! Raw milk! If you skim the cream off, you can make butter or sour cream. My kids thrived on that stuff without any problems with mucous secretions or sinuses.
Eventually, our cow went on to greener pastures (she died), so, for a short period of time, we brought store-bought “city milk” into the house. The kids complained that they could taste the cardboard, the plastic, even the cleaning agents. We found that their mucous secretions were green and slimy and gooey. All those properties could be attributed to the milk, because they didn’t occur until after the kids had started drinking the commercially produced milk. So, is milk the sinus and upper respiratory culprit? No, it is usually the milk products. If somebody has upper respiratory problems, one of the first things that I do is to take them off milk products.
If their eyes are really bothering them, I might rub Marshmallow Root Salve through and over the eyes to soothe them. If their throat is just killing them, or they’ve got a lot of drainage down the back of the throat, I’ll have them use sage tea. In very, very bad cases where the tonsils may be inflamed and everything’s a mess, I have swabbed the tonsils with Gland Oil. Now, this is a pretty nasty measure, but it will drain the lymphatic in the throat and gland area, and begin a return to normal function. I encourage patients to Swab the sinuses with a good herbal salve, such as Comfrey-Gold salve or Marshmallow Root salve. Swab deeply and generously. Lie on your back while swabbing, as in this position this allows salve to run down the back of the throat. If you don’t have a good salve, use a cold pressed oil.
Maybe we should sidetrack to ear problems, and then relate it to upper respiratory. If the ear is involved I first examine the ear (tinnitis, dizziness, ringing, itching, irritated), looking for redness or if it’s full of junk. If it is full of junk, then certainly we know we can candle them. I’ll follow up the ear candling with good cold pressed oil or ear oil that has Mullein and garlic in it. I will normally heat it up until it’s nice and warm, and when I pour it in, I sneak up on the ear canal. The ear canal’s pretty narrow, and if you just dump oil in it, you could get trapped air bubbles. What I do is pour it off to the side of the ear hole, and slowly enough so that it runs down into the hole versus possibly plugging the hole with an air bubble. Then I’ll plug the ear up with cotton or something similar. If you use something synthetic instead of cotton, you may cause an irritation in some people. If somebody has nerve damage in the ear, I’ll use olive oil, but before that, I’ll use a tea brewed from hops – it helps the nerves in the ear to regenerate.
Sinus Eaz 1-40 a day, 2-3 at a time. Frequent ingestion is allowed, and is encouraged whenever symptoms return. Each day, the total amount taken is reduced, until the upper respiratory system has been nourished.
Immune Eaz 1-2 added to each dosage of Sinus Eaz, if the problem has persisted long enough for bacterial or germ infestation.
Eye Eaz 1-3 per day if eyes are involved, taken in conjunction with Sinus Eaz and Immune Eaz.
Pain Eaz if sinus problem is present and Sinus Eaz does not relieve, taken according to protocols under Aches. Pain Eaz is compatible with all of the above.
